Teamwork makes the dreamwork....meet the women behind shopBirth!
In 2007 I started Great Expectations Birth which quickly became one of the top names in doula and other pregnancy related services in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas. While running that business, I developed a reputation for being helpful to others as they worked for the same success. At first it was just coffee dates here and there with other business owners and entrepreneurs where I helped them make their own dreams come to life.
Since that time I have co-developed BEST Doula Training, a national doula training program, that teaches professional and marketing skills to new doulas, two new businesses of my own, and helped many other people launch their great ideas. Through the creation of ShopBirth, I am thrilled to make this helping gig more formal and to bring Maryn's talents into the mix.
I have an undergraduate degree in Political Science and a Masters in Constitutional Law. I've worked as a lobbyist in DC and also in non-profit management (and have started my own non-profit as well). I live in Coppell, just about 2 miles from Maryn, with a very patient husband and our four busy kids. I know Diet Coke is poison, but I drink it all the time anyway because it makes me happy.
In 2012, after spending a decade working in human resources management, I decided to do something different. That fall, I launched Buoyant Birth, a birthing pool rental and sales business that rapidly became the go-to destination for all things waterbirth. Maria and I became neighbors - and fast friends - in 2014. Over countless cups of coffee, we realized that we had a talent for working together to help other small business owners bring their vision to life.
In 2015, we founded Dallas-Ft. Worth Placenta to provide placenta encapsulation services and to serve as an incubator where we could have fun with our business ideas! We've spoken at events, done website design using Squarespace (our very favorite platform!), and small business consulting. Nothing thrills me more than to see the success of other small business owners, because I know the impact that makes on our communities and our families.
I have degrees in music and psychology from The University of Texas and an MBA in Strategic Leadership from Amberton University, and I hold the PHR (Professional in Human Resources) and the SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management - Certified Professional) designations. My husband Steve and I live in Coppell, Texas with our three children, seven backyard chickens, and a cat who's old enough to have a driver's license.
